Geek Love -- Catherine Dunn

One very good, engrossing and totally odd story. And, that may be the point. The characters are all freaks and the geeks are the carnival kind. The story meanders through the Binewski's carnival and the current state of the the remaining members, Olyvia (a albino dwarf), her daughter (an artist who works in a strip club and has a tail), Miss Lick (who wants to cure people of defects) and the remnants of Olyvia's mother. Along the way the family of freaks (Siamese twins, aqua-boy, thought mover, charlatan father) grow, perform and are destroyed. And just to mix things up, there is a wanna-be doctor who cuts off people's limbs so they can join the aqua-boy cult...babies are born and die, there is booze and fire and some sex, and divine conception. What a disturbing romp.

Great article on the book: http://www.wired.com/2014/03/geek-love/
