Dèy - Edwidge Danticat

Edwidge Danticat's Dèy gives you a lot to think about. Violence, love, family, displacement, and self-understanding all have a part. Magnolia witnesses violence at the very start of the novel. Having asked her husband to temporarily move out so she can better understand herself, Magnolia is already at a somewhat rocky place. Growing up in a Haitian family, Magnolia lives in Miami, but must also grapple with the violence her family experiences in the home they have loved. Both disturbing and hopeful, Dèy is a novel of today, but it is also one of the timeless experiences of a world in disarray, mixed with a strong dose of family love.
