Mother Act - Heidi Reimer

A story about mothers and daughters that was a little too strident for me. Sadie, the mom, grew up in a strict household with lots of kids. She runs away at 17, gets to NYC, and transforms into an avantgarde actress and radical feminist. But, as the story progresses she marries and has a child of her own who she leaves, or abandons, with her husband. An act that is painful for everyone. She turns her life into theater, and her daughter, Jude, is left an emotional mess. Lots of  turmoil, confusion, and trauma ensues. If you like your fiction fraught and mixed with some politics, this is the book for you. It didn't quite make it for me.
