There is nothing really restful or relaxing in this book...but there is humor the sense of the surreal. When an unnamed young woman decides to spend a year asleep, she proceeds to devour an amazing array of drugs to make this reality. We have a young woman of privilege, a bulimic friend, a kooky psychiatrist with a ready prescription pad and a sadistic ex-boyfriend. Quite the mix. Not to mention the recently deceased alcoholic and cold parents. No wonder drugs are in order. I agree with one reviewer who wrote: "While we’re laughing, we feel disgust." In some ways this was right up my alley, quirky, very well written (great descriptive sentences), but in the end just too over the top.
