Everything I Never Told You -- Celeste Ng
"Everything I Never Told You" is a very sad story. The last two chapters brought tears to my eyes. Here is what happens when a family never truly talks to each other, when expectations are too high, when there are favorites. As Lydia's story unfolds, it becomes clear from the beginning that for this family, the ways of love are murky. The added pressure of a mixed race marriage (he is Chinese, she is American) in the 1970's gives the story an interesting view of racism and belonging. It seemed that Lydia's death was inevitable. A fast, heart-wrenching, read.
