The Bluest Eye - Toni Morrison

I didn't know much about The Bluest Eye when I started this book, and I think that was good. For such a discussed, admired and vilified novel, it was not quite as devastating as I expected. The writing is incredibly elegant. The story of racism and damage is more than compelling, it is electrifying. Some of the scenes are horrifying, while others teem with beauty. The characters in the town of Lorain, Ohio will live in my heart, especially the tragic story of Pecola Breedlove, the young girl longing for blue eyes. This is my first time reading Toni Morrison, but not the last.
