Snow Falling on Cedars - David Guterson

My mom recommended this book to me and I am glad she did. A mesmerizing story of a murder trial that confronts racism and misconceptions head on. In 1954 on a remote island in the Northwest, a fishing boat is found floating with on no one aboard, the captain is located drowned in his fishing nets. As this is not long after WWII, the brief police investigation points to a Japanese fisherman who lives on the island. The backstory is fascinating and as the trial proceeded the twists and turns had me compulsively turning the pages. A great read.
