Mercury Pictures Presents -- Anthony Marra

I would call  Mercury Pictures Presents historical fiction for intellectuals. It is very well written; sentences can be lovely and flow, with great word choices; but, I found it hard to get fully emotionally involved with the characters (although I did tear up a few times). I learned about U.S. propaganda during World War II, making movies, Italy, Los Angeles during the war, and miniature cities and the people who build them; I also pondered leaving home and family members behind, and how one becomes someone else. Really, I liked this book a lot, but felt I was slogging through in parts. I would recommend it to someone who likes historical fiction that is a little different.
