Intimacies -- Katie Kitamura

I really did not expect to be as moved by this book as I was. We are not told much about the background of the unnamed narrator, but it is obvious that she is compassionate, smart and lonely. She works as a translator for The Hague. As I was drawn into the story, I found her anonymity compelling and provocative. She is the story, but then again she is not. While the writing may seem distant to some, I found this novel fascinating. The themes of loneliness, love and evil are intertwined and powerful. I cried at the end.
