Where the Crawdads Sing -- Delia Owens
I can understand why this book is a bestseller. If you are willing to suspend belief that a 6 year old girl would survive after being abandoned in a swamp, that another teen would eventually teach her to read, and that she would become a famous artist and naturalist...this book is for you. Kya is an interesting character, but I found her totally unbelievable. The coarse town, the two opposing men in her life, the shack, all required too much suspension of belief for me. I have to admit being caught up enough to want to know who killed Chase, but by the end, I merely felt manipulated. I know some loved the language and the depiction of the swampland, but I kept wanting to just get on with the story.
