Go, Went, Gone -- Jenny Erpenbeck

I have tears in my eyes having just finished Go, Went, Gone. What a moving examination of the horrific plight of a group of African refugees and the quest for meaning in the life of a retired classics professor. Examining the harrowing journeys of the refugees, the European policies that keeps them from any stability, the inherent racism in our culture; coupled with the humanity that arises for those in need, this is an amazing, masterful work. The NYTimes says "Erpenbeck, one of Germany’s finest contemporary writers, has been acclaimed for her vision and imaginative daring." I totally agree.
