Absolution - Alice McDermott
I have mixed feelings about this book. The story and setting were interesting, but Patricia, the main character, was too self-deprecating for me. Reading about the time just before the Vietnam war was pretty fascinating, and I was pulled along by the story, but there was something distant in the telling. In the other Alice McDermott books I've read, I felt like she was writing about what she knew, here I wasn't so sure. It does have lovely cover.
