The Hero of This Book -- Elizabeth McCraken

An ode to the narrator's mother who lived a full, but painful life. I bought into the memoir/not memoir theme, and was heartened by the relationship of mother and daughter. And, I really enjoyed the narrator's voice. There was a great quote about her parents, that was something like..."they were very different, but they shared the same vices, which is why they had such a successful relationship." The one thing that threw me, the book ended with the last two sentences having a word I didn't know..."evanesce"..."to pass out of sight, memory, or existence" which I kind of guessed, but it felt weird to have to look up the word that summed things up.
