Hamnet -- Maggie O'Farrell

Hamnet is flying off the shelves at the bookstore, so I had to see what all the fuss is about. What a wonderful book. Although set in 16th century England, the character are totally alive. I'm not sure how close this is to the story of Shakespeare and his wife Anne and family, but the love in the novel is deep and true. When Hamnet dies of the plague, the pain is so real it is almost overwhelming. The last section of the book, where Agnes travels to London to see the play Hamlet performed, is propulsive and incredibly moving. A tour de force.
