Red at the Bone - Jacqueline Woodson

A brief, moving read about family ties and the way we grow both together and apart as time goes forward. Iris, the main character, is somewhat of an enigma, but her discomfort with her life is the driving force of the novel. As Melody, her daughter, grows, the family accepts her estrangement, but pain underlines their lives. Poor Aubrey, too early gone. A novel that in the end made me sigh with tears in my eyes.
