American Spy -- Lauren Wilkinson

Started with a bang, ended with a whimper. A mixed-up story of a black woman who becomes an FBI agent and then a private operative sent to Burkina Faso to try to overthrow the leader. Very conflicting stories. I never really understood what happened to Marie's sister, Helene, or why her mother left her father. Never got a real feel for the men running the covert operation, and most of all, never understood why anyone cared where she ended up in the end. Greatly in need of editing. It got my attention from a best debut novel list, maybe her next effort will be better.
