Father of the Rain, published in 2010, is Lily King's 3rd novel. It is an engrossing view of the daughter of an alcoholic, but also an aggravating story where happenstance has too much sway. Daley's dad is a mean, bigoted, entitled drunk. Starting when Daley is a child and her mother takes her away when she leaves, Daley is buffeted by her father's actions. I appreciated the dialog, sense of place, and interesting characters, but I found myself frustrated by Daley's decisions. A middle of the road novel for those who like stories of growing up in difficult families.
