The Italian Shoes -- Henning Mankell

An odd and moving book by Henning Mankell. Fredrik Welin lives alone on an isolated island of Sweden, until his past and the present collide. Three women enter his world, two returning, one a daughter he never knew. Harriet is his former lover, and mother of Louise. Agnes is a former patient from when he was s surgeon. Such an interesting story of regret, loneliness, love, family, isolation, resilience, and possible redemption. There is a second book in the series, I think I'm going to have to let this sink in first.
