This book has been on my list to read since it was first released over 20 years ago. Most accounts of the memoir call it harrowing, and it is, but what I found most moving about Caroline Knapp's journey to sobriety was her stark descriptions of the needs of an alcoholic, as well as the confusion alcoholism carries into someone's life. Parts of her story left me conflicted...while the road to quitting seemed labyrinthian, the way to sobriety seemed pretty straightforward. I'm not sure how accurate that is.
