The Family Chao -- Lan Samantha Chang

An odd novel. It read like a debut endeavor, but the author is award-winning and the director of the Iowa Writer's workshop. Still, there was a feeling of naivete and banal emotion in the characters. Nobody really gets ahead in the family Chao. Although I wouldn't mind having dinner in their restaurant. I just wish it wasn't in some bland Wisconsin town. It's a family drama, murder mystery, and love story, but it just didn't quite ring for me.
