American Dirt -- Jeanine Cummins

How shallow. I wanted to see what the fuss was about, and now I know. American Dirt reads like a trashy romance novel. The characters lack depth and think and speak in platitudes, the premise is unbelievable...and that doesn't even go into the question of what were Flatiron Books and Jeanine Cummins thinking when they touted this as true insight into the lives of migrants? I felt that Lydia and Javier would meet at the end and have a sense of settling up. Not so...they Facetime...what a mess.

I felt kind of soiled reading it.
