"Stoner" by John Williams is a quiet, intense novel of a life not lived fully. Always missing the moments of true happiness and understanding, Bill Stoner is a man who tugs at your heart. He is adept, upstanding and reasonable, while outstanding lies always outside of his reach. A sad and moving read.
