Two memoirs--I just don't seem to be a fan of memoirs. There's something that always makes me feel skeptical. With Running with Scissors, I was not alone in the suspicion that Augustin Burroughs was stretching the truth.
The Glass Castle rings truer, but still made me uncomfortable. Yes, there may be poverty and homelessness by choice, but skimming the boundaries of mental illness and alcoholism with 4 kids is an extremely dangerous place. The kids survived, but I kept thinking someone must see they need help. Where were they?
